Fambidzanai Permaculture centre is a training center that was established in 1988. It is a registered Trading Trust private limited (No 87/18) that is governed by a board of trustees. The Zimbabwe Institute of Permaculture (Z.I.P.), a registered Social Welfare Organization (No WO 12/92) is responsible for the properties of Fambidzanai. Physically Fambidzanai is located 20 km from the Harare city centre along Lomagundi road.

The centre has fostered the creation of four other development institutions namely The Natural Farming network (NFN), the Schools and Colleges Permaculture (SCOPE), African Farmer Organic Research and Training (AfFOREST), and Participatory Ecological Land Use Management (PELUM). Since its inception, the centre has paved the path for food security through sustainable Land use Management. Our development intervention is characterized by skills training; demonstrations, participatory rural appraisal, and creating marketing opportunities for organic produce. Our Vision is we envisage Prosperous, self-sustainable, food secure and healthy communities practicing environmental friendly permaculture systems and the mission is to teach and demonstrate relevant skills and knowledge to restore people’s confidence in their ability to produce off land while still working creatively in harmony with nature.

TRAINING

  • The Training Team
    The training team has a wider experience in permaculture, low external input agriculture systems, agronomy, horticulture, food processing, organic agriculture, community dynamics and leadership among other areas. Various methodologies are used for training such as group work, role play, group discussions, games and others.

Kudzanai Lewis Mashingaidze is Veteran Permaculturlist, agriculturalist, Permaculture National Trainer in schools, colleges and communities for 13 years, Permaculture Designer and Consultant. He is currently director of FPC which is the oldest Permaculture Centre in Africa.

Wilfred Miga - A teacher, Permaculturalists, an Agriculturalist by profession. He has more than ten of experience in the field and has a wider experience in agronomy, livestock production project planning and management among others. He is currently the manager of the training department.

Matimba Boniface - a versatile facilitator, Permaculturalists, ecologists, a landscaper, apiculturalist and animal specialist. He has trained permaculture to participants from Central and Southern Africa as well as from other parts of the world. He is currently the training officer.

Edwin Mazhawidza - an organic farming specialist, Permaculturalists, agronomist, horticulturalists, agro forester and ethnovet specialist. He is multitalented in various research and implementation of various agro-based projects. He is currently the research and documentation officer.

Kudakwashe L. Mudokwani – a social scientist by profession and is talented in research project, community mobilization and implementation, facilitation of gender and HIV related issues, monitoring and evaluation of various projects. He is currently the programs officer.

Nosizi Mashingaidze -A teacher, Permaculturalists, an Agriculturalist by profession. She has more than ten years experience in the field of sustainable agriculture. She is specialist in herbs production, processing, and uses. She currently heads the lands department.

Jacob Ndlovu - An extension worker, agriculturalist, and versatile facilitator. He is currently facilitating implementation of projects in Matebeleland south province.

The department is also supported by two interns one from a university and the other from an agricultural training institution. Accommodation and catering facilities. At the center there are some rooms that are used for accommodating participates. The rooms are built using locally available resources. Some were built using only mad and others were built using earth bricks. The rooms can carry a total capacity of 40 people. For meals a large dinning room was built using testarum pressed bricks. It can accommodate up to 40 people at any one time. The area has both shade and sunlight during the day and it is cool during the night. A number of trees provide wind break and shade.
